Emily Funderburk is a trauma informed therapist that is known for loving people in the messy middle. She holds a bachelor's degree in Psychology from UNC-Charlotte, and received her Master's in Christian Counseling from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. In her therapy practice, she believes in the value of experiential, attachment, and systems theories to help her clients reach their growth goals. She currently specializes in EMDR therapy, and is trained through EFT in her couples sessions. As a therapist, she gets to meet people in the midst of their pain and assist with healing on the other side of their storms. When at home, Emily, her husband Matt, and three kids are always looking for their next family adventure. They like to say they find ways to put the "fun" in their last name Funderburk. She is a learner at heart and enjoys continuing her education in the way the brain and body operates, the power of connection in relationships, and in areas of spiritual growth and development. When she isn't in a counseling session, she uses her work-week to grow the vision of the Inner Freedom Initiative through podcasts and Freedom Thought writings. She is currently working on her second book that will hopefully have a soon arrival.
Everyone should have access to hope, safety, and freedom.

While I am a Christian faith based person, and I work with many Christian clients and couples, I also work with people who are questioning their faith, as well as a diverse group of individuals who may have a different faith than I do, or no faith at all. I extend services from a place of compassion and non judgment.

This is my most asked question and my initial response is always, "As long as it takes for you to gain safety and healing." This process varies among individuals and couples and I want to honor that healing can happen in layers and among different time periods. With that said, I do understand that for the sake of financial planning and time scheduling it can be important to have an estimated time when getting started. I encourage clients to estimate between 10-16 sessions and then reassess where they are and how they are feeling at that point.
For the business organization or church who would like to provide financial assistance to the person or employee you are referring to therapy, you are welcome to do so if that is acceptable for the client. It is important to note that regardless of who pays for therapy, all client sessions are strictly confidential, thus no information will provided to the referrring party without written signed consent from the client.
